Some days, it feels like we live in a highlight reel.
In a world that celebrates big platforms, bold moves, hot takes, and immediate results, it’s easy to assume that meaningful impact also requires something dramatic or highly visible. We equate influence with something life-changing or viral, then keep scrolling, thinking our lives are too normal to do anything big for the Kingdom of God. Yet most of our lives aren’t built on headline moments. They’re shaped by ordinary days, traffic-laden commutes, simple conversations, and small decisions that rarely get noticed.
What if those moments matter more than we think?
At Orchard, we believe God works powerfully through tiny yeses, small acts of obedience offered with a willing heart. In fact, Scripture consistently shows us that God values faithfulness over visibility. He delights in using what seems small, overlooked, or unremarkable to bring about lasting good or glory.
Jesus makes this unmistakably clear in the story of the widow who drops two small coins into the temple offering. Her gift is easy to miss beside the larger donations of others. Yet Jesus pauses and calls attention to her, not because of how much she gave, but because of how she gave. She offered what she had, pouring out her life as it existed in that moment, trusting God with the rest. Her quiet, faithful “yes” was noticed and praised by Jesus, now echoing through our faith for generations.
Her story encourages us to reconsider how we think about service. Serving God doesn’t always mean adding something impressive to our schedule or résumé. Often, service simply looks like saying yes to what’s already in front of us. A tiny yes to helping a neighbor carry in groceries. A tiny yes to noticing the person others overlook. A tiny yes to doing something when the world feels heavy, rather than letting the days scroll by.
But this doesn’t have to be life-altering. Sometimes, a tiny yes for the Lord looks like going slightly out of your way for someone else. Dropping off a care package of wellness goodies to a friend who hasn’t been able to rest recently. Sending a meal to a family having a hard week. Writing a note of encouragement when words feel inadequate, but presence still matters. These things may feel ordinary, or even inconvenient, but they are collected, held close, and cherished by a God who delights in seeing us.
In Genesis 16, Hagar isn’t powerful or influential. Far from it, in fact, she’s pregnant and on the run from an abusive mistress. She is bewildered when she encounters God in the desert and receives his attention and care. She names Him El Roi: “the God who sees me.” Hagar is a tiny part of a bigger story, but her role in it matters so much that God meets her right where she is to show her that she is loved even in the midst of heartache. That same God sees us and sees every small act offered in love. No tiny yes goes unnoticed.
For some, that “yes” can show up in formal service: starting a non-profit, volunteering, giving generously, or supporting meaningful work. For others, it looks like everyday faithfulness: caring for family, encouraging a coworker, checking on a neighbor, even praying when no one else sees. These acts may feel insignificant, but our God specializes in using small obedience for eternal impact.
In a world pushing us toward viral moments, profound productivity, and impressive impact, God invites us into something quieter. He invites us to take tiny actions, to say tiny yeses, to make the big picture that much brighter.
So here’s our invitation: ask God this week where He’s inviting you into a tiny yes. One small way to serve. One ordinary moment to offer back to Him. You don’t need more time, more resources, or a perfect plan. Just a willing heart.
When placed in God’s hands, even the tiniest yes can echo into eternity.
